Ofri, Abraham


Son of Haim and Leah. He was born on September 25, 1926 in Tel Aviv. He completed his elementary studies at the “Talmud Torah” (“Kalisher”) and completed high school at Geula High School. Afterward, he underwent a sanitation course at the Tel Aviv Municipality in Tzrifin and became a certified technician in the sanitation department of the Tel Aviv municipality. He was a sports fan and belonged to Hapoel and was also a member of the board of directors of the “Organizer” section of Hapoel Tel Aviv. He was also a member of the Israeli Opera and appeared in various roles. In 1944 he enlisted in the British army, but was released shortly after. He was later a member of the Haganah and belonged to the PAM companies. He was one of the founders of the Givati ​​Brigade and participated in the War of Independence and fought in all the battles until the conquest of Beit Guvrin, where he also took part in reserve duty. A deputy company commander who fulfilled his duties with great devotion and responsibility. Was devoted to his soldiers and was a good leader, and when he was sent to Nahal Oz during the shelling of the economy was hit by a direct hit by a shell. It was on the first day of the fighting, June 26, 1967. He left a wife, a son and a daughter. He was buried in the military emergency cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. His memory was included in the Givatayim Information and Local Quarterly Magazine published by the municipality and in the “Book of the Fallen” of the Givatayim Municipality
