Ofer, Shai


Son of Rachel and Abraham. He was born on November 17, 1967 in Givatayim. At the age of three he began visiting the kindergarten. Some of the activities of the kindergarten did not interest him, and he attributed this to lack of concentration, but he was very capable of concentrating on things that interested him. Between the ages of four and six, he discovered the first signs of understanding and curiosity in the exact field of science. He understood the meaning of ‘three dimensions’, positive and negative numbers, positive and negative ones. Then he also tried to understand the significance of the fourth dimension. With mathematical and abstract understanding, he was very unusual about his peers, and often did not understand why his friends did not understand or show no interest in his words. Shai began his first year at Ramim School in Givatayim. They immediately stood up for his skills and sought ideas that would enhance his ability. He participated in gifted children’s groups at Bar-Ilan University where he studied physics, chemistry and computers. As a child he was active in the swimming sector of the Neve Monosson Club, participated in swimming competitions, and several times succeeded in the Kinneret in Hapoel. He was a member of the Scouts movement in the “Maccabim” tribe in Neve Monosson. Shai dealt with the subject of computers even when this field was not common knowledge. He did not have notebooks; He only put things in writing when he had to submit jobs to teachers – everything was in his head. In 1981, after graduating from elementary school, he traveled with his family on a mission to the United States, where he began his high school studies. Despite the difficulties of language, he soon became absorbed in the school and excelled in the real subjects he studied in the higher grades. Shai was blessed with a sharp analytical brain and clear, clear mathematical thinking, and took part in mathematics and computer competitions. At the end of two years, the family returned to Israel and Shai began his studies in the physical track at the comprehensive high school in Yehud. Here too he stood out above everyone else. Shai was known as an original guy with a special sense of humor. “We published a number of jokes and cartoons in the school newspaper, and as Shai’s head was not limited by any challenge, so was his sense of humor, the jokes caused a great uproar, and the school newspaper even closed for a while, What … But the readers laughed and laughed. ” At the beginning of the twelfth grade, he was summoned to the Talpiot project – high studies in mathematics, physics and computers at the university as part of compulsory army service. He successfully passed all stages of the tests, including officer’s assessments, with the highest grade, and was accepted into the project. Shai finished his matriculation exams and everything seemed clear. His military career was clear, and the courses matched his skills and plans for the future, after his military service. He was Simcha, and pleasure was the decisive factor in his life. In mid-July 1985 he was drafted into the IDF and began the long and interesting course of the Talpiot project, which Shai enjoyed being a student in the IDF. A sensitive guy with a golden Lev, his friends said about him, original, unique and with a mature worldview. Encouraged in difficult moments and gives strength to continue, a good friend and loved by everyone. His friends knew that every request and request would be accepted in the affirmative, while listening and understanding. The content, the ideas and the originality of his work were worth a citation, Shai always seemed to take everything easily, without pressure, without raising his voice, calm and calm, and always with a broad smile on his face. “Shai did not give up a good movie at the cinema, and the television was open to him day and night, which led to the creation of a club in his room, which helped everyone to ventilate his head. He always found time for a blessing, a run and of course a tan – lying on the grass in shorts, a Walkman and a book. “At the end of the second year,And a basic officers’ course, but he did not finish. On the 20th of Av 5747 (August 20, 1987) he fell while carrying out his duties. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents and two brothers – Gal and Nir. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “… during the officers’ course, Shai discovered the level of achievement and ability to cope with the challenges in the course, and his special qualities made him popular and beloved to his comrades and commanders. The “Talpiot” group of the seventh class produced an album in memory of members.
