Odi, Shalom
Son of Sa’ada and Shlomo, was born in 1930 in the city of Ud, Yemen. His father died when he was 14; he emerged as the pioneer of the family from Eden to Eretz Israel. In Yemen he was educated in Yeshivah, and in Israel in the educational institution for children in Shfeya. Shalom specialized in agricultural work, worked as a laborer in the orchards of Kalmania, and with his money sent to his mother and his brothers who remained in Aden. Shalom loved books and writing, which he had always studied, was always clean and orderly, a good and loyal friend. Shalom joined the Haganah at the beginning of the induction and served in the Alexandroni Brigade. He was an excellent machine gunner. When he was in the armored vehicle at the entrance to Wadi Ara, he was critically wounded and three days later, on 3 May 1948, he died of his wounds and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Ra’anana.
