Obanan (Rosenhack), Valerio
Valerio, son of Gizela and Adrian, was born on July 22, 1953, in Ploiesti, Romania, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1969. He attended elementary school in his hometown and high school in Bucharest. Valerio was an outstanding student, diligent and diligent, and especially did well in arithmetic and algebra; Indeed, his achievements in these subjects exceeded the achievements of all his friends. His concentration and attentiveness were qualities that made him unique in school. Valerio was also a sports fan, played a lot of football and tried not to miss important football competitions. He was a cheerful, playful boy and liked to be a prankster. But in his attitude toward people, he was serious and especially concerned about his family and helped his mother a lot. Valerio was drafted into the IDF in mid-April 1971 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he completed a basic training course for commanders of heavy-mortar crews, one of his pupils, who was a strict commander who insisted on military-professional matters. He participated in operational activities and was awarded the “Operational Service Medal.” During the Yom Kippur War, his unit participated in providing fire support to our forces, who fought hard to stop the Syrian attacks on the Golan Heights. On October 8, 1973, Valerio was hit by heavy artillery and was killed. His body was brought to eternal rest in the Ashdod cemetery, leaving behind a father, a mother, a brother and a sister. He was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. His commander testified that he was among the best commanders in the unit. He ordered the crew of the battery and acted with great incessant fire to help repel the Syrian onslaught.
