Noah, Abraham (Avi)

Noah, Abraham (Avi)

Son of Shoshana and Yaakov, was born in 1936 in Syria. My father was 9c years old when he immigrated with his family to Israel. He attended Bialik and Tachkemoni schools and continued to study at evening classes. At an early age my father went out to work odd jobs, as a mechanic and a blacksmith. He was drafted into the IDF in January 1954. He completed his regular army service and served in the reserves as a gunner, and he participated in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War. My father was a devoted husband to his wife and a loving and caring father for his three children, and because of his poor health, my father was transferred in June 1970 to serve as an inspector in the Haganah. On the 18th of Iyar 5745 (May 19, 1985), he reported to his unit. He visited the clinic, and after he left, he suddenly collapsed and died. He was 49 years old when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. My father left behind a wife, two daughters, a son, two brothers and a sister. The commander of his unit in the Haganah wrote in a letter of condolence to his family: “Avraham served in our unit for a long period and fulfilled his duty to the IDF in the best of his abilities and abilities”
