Niv, Ephraim
The late son of-Eliezer and Nechama was born on 20.3.1923 in Jerusalem. He studied at the local elementary school and continued his studies at the Max Payne High School in Ramat Gan. His outstanding qualities were: peace of mind, sharpness of creativity and immediate readiness to help others. They were a name in the family and in the frameworks in which they were involved. To do a ‘think’, to analyze a problem or an idea in depth and to carry it out – all this was done, usually with the help of the family, together, Ephraim would never impose his opinion or his will on others but would allow others to reach appropriate conclusions – By stimulating thought in others. His skill in manual labor left its mark in every corner, inside and outside the house. Painting, sculpture, woodworking – all these together are laid out, noting: “This Ephraim did … and this Ephraim built … and the cupboards built and assembled.” And in all these he shared, whether in the opinion of the executioner, the family members . Ephraim was drafted into the IDF in 1948. He served in the Alexandroni Brigade and the Golani Brigade, and in 1950 he joined the Intelligence Corps, and in 1970, when he was offered to serve in the Haganah, he volunteered to serve in his unit. He continued to work as an employee of the Israel Defense Forces and every year he was called up for an active reserve duty, the family was the nucleus – the core was Ephraim – all the members of the extended family knew: there was a problem, a solution was needed, “Ephraim, I have a problem …” He would listen, nod, raise a proposal and finally say, “Forget it, I’ll come up and see you …” He came. Tammuz 5737 (July 14, 1977) Ephraim fell in the line of duty and was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the cemetery in Holon, leaving behind a wife, daughter and two sons, and a mother.
