Nissim, Yehezkel


Yehezkel, son of Aziza and Salach, was born on May 6, 1952 in Ness Ziona. He studied in the State elementary school and in the ninth high school in Nes Ziona, and later moved to the ORT vocational high school in Rehovot. Yehezkel was a vigorous and talented child, and was already outstanding in his Yaffa handicrafts. He was a polite student, orderly and meticulous about his appearance and the preparation of his lessons. He often helped his classmates with their difficult studies. In addition to his love for music, Yehezkel was an enthusiastic athlete and was a member of Maccabi Nes Ziona and the karate branch of the Israel Sports Association. In his free time he was repairing old cars. He loved machines and mechanics and before he was drafted, he joined the Technical Corps of the Ordnance Corps, where he studied for more than a year. Yehezkel was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early January 1970 and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps, where he spent most of his service in Sinai, and when he arrived at the army, he volunteered to serve in the regular army. He was always cheerful, always a good mood all around him. Hezi was an excellent professional, always doing his duty with all his Lev, and even proud of it. He took his service seriously, and every time he was given the opportunity, he volunteered to go to Sinai, where the work was more important and more important. “In the Yom Kippur War, Yehezkel served as a tank mechanic at the Sinai front. On the 23rd of Tishrei 5734 (19.10.1973), the day after Sukkot, the technical unit of the Ordnance Corps in the half-track, a few hundred meters away from the Great Bitter Lake, moved toward the bridge to ensure supplies and ammunition for the forces in the West Bank. Two hundred meters before the bridge, a heavy and concentrated attack was launched, artillery shells and Katyushas exploded around them and his half-track was hit by a Katyusha rocket. Four soldiers were killed, among them Yechezkel, who was brought to rest in the cemetery in Nes Tziona and left behind a father, mother and sister, and was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant.
