Nissim, Amnon


Son of Albert and Marguerite. He was born on the 28th of Adar 5709 (28.3.1949) in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. The family immigrated to Israel in 1951. When Amnon reached school age, he began studying at the Carmel School in Tel Aviv and after completing his studies he studied at the Municipal High School Aleph. He devoted many hours of his leisure time to sports to the Maccabi soccer team in Tel Aviv. He also belonged to the Zvulun Water Sports Association as a child. Aside from sports, he would love to listen to music of all kinds and, having a talent for playing, liked to spend his time doing so; He liked to play guitar and beat the drums. He was fond of reading and especially liked to invest himself in reading about technical and scientific subjects. In general he was a student who excelled in his studies. At the “Carmel” school he won a scholarship and, having a strong tendency toward the real professions, turned to the real trend in which he graduated from high school. As part of his military service to which he was recruited in August 1967, he was assigned to the Artillery Corps. Since his brother was then in the IDF, he had the option of postponing his service and continuing his studies at the Hebrew Technion in Haifa, but he preferred to enlist with his friends and pursue his higher studies afterward. Was killed in the Suez Canal on Monday, April 20, 1969. He was laid to rest at the Kiryat Shaul Military Cemetery, where the commander of his unit wrote in a letter of condolences to his parents: “Amnon was one of the soldiers And the dedicated commanders. From the beginning of his career in the IDF and in the unit he stood out in his steadfastness and his adherence to the goals he was assigned and was admired by his friends and commanders alike. “
