Nissenman, Yehuda


Son of Frieda and Nathan. Born in Bessarabia in 1910 and raised in a traditional and Zionist home. He was active in Zionist youth groups and for the establishment of the Jewish National Fund. In 1931 he immigrated to Eretz Israel after the immigration of his family and settled in Nes Ziona. He studied driving and worked in a freight car he had purchased for himself. He was well known for his willingness to help all the needy and his activities in the Hapoel Association in the moshavah. Upon the outbreak of the 1936-1939 riots, he enlisted as a police officer for the Jewish settlements and, as part of this service, underwent training in the Hulda Forest. In addition, he served as a driver for a armored vehicle transporting laborers to work in the orchards. He also took part in operations against Arab gangs around Nablus, Deir Tarif and Tulkarem, and in these operations he risked his life more than once. On June 12, 1939, while walking on the main street of Nes Tziona with his family, he was wounded by a bullet of Arab murderers and died after severe anguish on the 4th of Tamuz, the 21th of June, 1939. He was buried in the cemetery in Nes Ziona. He left a wife and two children, and his name was immortalized in the book Nes Tziona.
