Nissani, Shimon
Son of Rachel and Matityahu, was born on September 26, 1922, in Hamdan, Persia, immigrated to Israel with his family in 1925. At the age of 5, he lost his father and from age 10 he grew up in the Diskin orphanage in Jerusalem, As a member of the Hagana, he was one of the first to respond to the enlistment order following the UN General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 regarding the partition of the country and was in charge of the position at the “Batei Mandelbaum” in the Hungarian neighborhood. Was arrested by the British along with four of his friends, near the Lions’ Gate, from the British Serum to an Arab mob that murdered the four, was buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem. The monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of fighters who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were brought for burial on the Mount of Olives.
