Nishri, David


Son of Leah and Zvi Aryeh. He was born on July 7, 1917 in Zichron Yaakov, where his parents moved during the expulsion from Tel Aviv. He was educated at the Herzliya High School and completed his studies cum laude in 1934. The following year he worked in the government’s measurement department. He was fluent in the three official languages ​​and excelled in mathematics. In 1936, he was admitted to the Einstein Institute of Mathematics and Physics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he joined the defenders and was later recruited as an additional policeman. David stood guard in Motza Elite and excelled in his great responsibility and good temper. His uncle called him a teddy bear. He was a member of “Scouts” from his youth, was interested in music and played several instruments. On 20 Elul August 28, 1936, David was shot by an ambush while in a car carrying workers and elite guards to Jerusalem, and his friend wrote: “The cedar inside us is a strong defensive wall – he died quietly, without a sigh, without a sound.” He was brought to eternal rest in the old cemetery in Tel Aviv and was immortalized in the books “The 1936 Riots” and “Blood and Fire”. A library was established in Motza Ilit after him. Four nephews of his family are named after him.
