Shimon studied at the Hebrew ulpan at Kibbutz Mesilot and began working as a refrigeration technician at Ampa. In Israel, he continued to play tennis-table tennis and was a coach-tennis player of the Technion in Haifa. Shimon was drafted into the IDF at the end of December 1972. Since his military service in the Russian army was recognized as a military service in every respect, Shimon underwent basic training and was immediately transferred to reserve duty. He participated in the Yom Kippur War and every year served in a reserve service unit together with his comrades in arms. In 1974 he married his girlfriend Sonia. He was a loving and faithful husband. A devoted son looking after his widowed mother. At the end of November 1975, he was called to active reserve duty and at the end of the day, on December 3, 1975, he fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
