Nathaniel, Ephraim-Menachem


Son of Miriam and Aharon, was born on the 1st of Tammuz, June 19, 1928 in the town Marianovka, Volhynia, Poland.
The Russians conquered the area in 1941, the family fled to the forests where his father died. After the war he moved to Lodz and joined the pioneering youth movement “Dror.” Ephraim headed the “Dror” group on the ship “Herzl.” where he was arrested by the British and sent to Cyprus. Ephraim immigrated to Israel as part of the Youth Aliya on March 23, 1948. Upon his arrival, he was drafted immediately and joined the “Palmach” He served as a lieutenant commander, fought in Jerusalem and later was sent with his unit as reinforcements to the Negev. Efraim-Menahem was hit by a bullet in the attack on Auja-el-Hafir in Operation Horev on the 24th of Kislav, 26.12.12 1948 and was buried in Halutza. On the 23rd of Tammuz 5709 (July 20, 1949) he was transferred to the military cemetery in Nachalat Yitzchok.
