Nathan, Raphael (Rafi)


Son of Lotte and Dr. Hans, was born on December 3, 1926, in the city of Liebk, Germany On June 12, 1933, at the age of six, he arrived with his parents in Jerusalem and began his studies in the Talpiot school. A member of Hashomer Hatzair, he left the movement and reached various conclusions in his national views, starting working at Ortrack and learning the phone works, and enlisted in the British army during the Second World War, first joining the Jewish Brigade in Holland and Belgium He was discharged from the British army at the end of 1946. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted and served in the Jerusalem Brigade, He was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and Rafael participated in the last battles in Kfar Etzion before his destruction and during one of the days of desperate battles he succeeded in penetrating the enemy camp and returning the machine gun that fell into their hands. Even after he was wounded in the head, he continued to fight and serve in his position until he fell on the day of the fall of Kfar Etzion, on May 13, 1948. Survived by his parents and sister Esther. After his fall, he was promoted to lieutenant. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949), he was brought to eternal rest with the rest of the Bloc in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
