Natan Cohen


Natan, the eldest son of Limor and David Shimon Cohen, was born in Be’er Sheva in 1991. He grew up in the city of Modiin. On November 28, 2010, Nathan enlisted in the IDF. When he was in high school he set himself a goal and decided, following his father, a career officer, to serve in the Armored Corps, Regiment 46 in the 401st Brigade. He served as a tank soldier, passed a commanders course, served as a tank commander, and was sent to an officers’ course. After completing his officers’ course, he served as the commander of the recruits at the Shazafon base, and then returned to the battalion as commander of the tank division. He was a much-beloved and highly respected soldier and commander. Natan fell in battle during Operation Tzuk Eitan on 25 Tamuz, July 22, 2014. He was killed by a sniper, who hit him through the crack in the tank commander’s shelf. Nathan was twenty-three years old when he fell, exactly three months before his wedding date with Tal. He was laid to rest in the military section of the Modi’in cemetery. He is survived by his parents, two sisters, two brothers and his fiancee. After his fall Nathan was promoted to captain. A Torah scroll was written in memory of Natan on the 24th of Elul 5766 (27.9.2016). Another Torah scroll was written in memory of Natan and donated by the family to the Elisha preparatory program. At the Nativ Zevulun Torani Elementary School in Modiin, where Nathan studied, an empowerment, relaxation and fun room was established that the family donated – Natan’s Room.
