Nashevsky, Eliyahu (Eli)

Son of Sarah and Zvi, was born on April 29, 1931, in Poland. As a child he experienced all the horrors of World War II and after the war was with his parents among the DPs in Germany, but life there did not suit him. Elijah moved to France and boarded the Latrun, which was captured by the British. He was exiled to Cyprus and from there he immigrated to Israel on May 15, 1947. Eliahu joined the youth group at Kibbutz Ginossar and received education and training. In the youth company he was serious, devoted to his group and to his work, and always carried in his Lev the concern for parents and the desire to bring them to Israel. In the winter of 1948, when the War of Independence broke out, the peaceful yeshiva on the kibbutz made it difficult for him, while others, only a year or two older than him, were already entitled to fight for the liberation of the country and the opening of its gates to the exiles. In the beginning of May 1948 he decided to join the fighters, and after refusing to accept him in the recruitment office in Tiberias because of his youth, he changed his birthday with his documents and two days later was very Simcha and worn by an Israeli soldier and served in one of the Palmach battalions “Yiftach”. He participated in the liberation of the Galilee and Safed and in a sabotage operation in Banias (where he carried a large explosive device at night). He moved with his battalion to the Latrun battles and the breakthrough to Jerusalem. After the first truce, he participated in Operation Danny, and in the Battle of the Lod Police he fell on 4 July 1948.
