When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was sent to Sinai and immediately entered the battle. In the fighting, the unit spent difficult days fighting incessantly against Egyptian commandos. After the Egyptians took control of the “Chinese farm” area, it was decided that the paratroopers, with the help of armored forces, would capture him and return him to the IDF’s control. In the battle that took place there on the 17th of Tishrei 5734 (17.10.1973), Joseph was wounded when he was brought to the evacuation armored personnel carrier, who transferred the wounded to a medical facility on the home front. On the way to the medical facility, the APC was hit by a direct hit and Yosef was killed and brought to rest in the Nahariya cemetery, leaving behind his parents and brother.
