Namder, Moshe (Musa)

Moshe (Musa), son of Hannah and Yeshayahu Namder, was born in 1914 in the community of Marrano Jews in Mashhad, Iran and secretly was educated as a Jew. As an enthusiastic Zionist, he decided to immigrate to Israel in order to be a Jew openly. Moshe wandered through Iran, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, and in 1936 he crossed the border of the country. He was caught, and after six months was released and was allowed to remain in Israel. Moshe married and had a son. He was devoted to his family and his homeland, humble and true. As a member of the Haganah and the Magen David Adom, he bore all his duties and the burden of every difficult task without a complaint. During the “Danny” operation, our forces took control of the Modi’in area, and when the second truce came into effect, the area was occupied by forces from the 219. On September 24, 1948, local Arabs attacked. The defenders were surprised and forced to retreat in light of the enemy’s superiority. The following day, our forces attacked and took over the outpost. Moshe was seriously injured in the stomach and transferred to Tel Hashomer Hospital. After two days of severe suffering, he died on the the 24th of Elul, September 28, 1948, and was brought to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
