Nahum, Reuven

Nahum, Reuven

Son of Rafael and Julia. He was born on the 10th of Adar 5737 (March 13, 1957) in Moshav Hatzav, in the district of Ashkelon, where he studied at the elementary school in the moshav, and excelled in his studies, although he did not spend much time preparing his lessons. And the animals in his parents’ agricultural farm attracted him more than his studies, and after six years he moved to the regional school in Be’er Tuvia, and Reuven’s next crucial step in his short life was to enter the Kanot agricultural high school in the framework of a boarding school. The agricultural background of his origins and his love for earthwork placed him in the first row in all practical work, and he devoted little attention to his studies The teachers and friends recognized the special status that ReuSon of had acquired for himself in the spirit of humor and mischief that accompanied him in all his actions, in his willingness to always help others, in his light and in his good manners. Of the girls, drawn to his tall height, to his Yaffa eyes and to his peace of mind, which contained a charming mixture of adolescent embarrassment with the innocence of a youth and the devoted and genuine responsibility of a moshav. Reuven was known as a man of infinite energy. He liked sports. Excelled at running, was an excellent footballer, rode on horseback. He worked diligently at work and, at the end of his work at school, hurried to the moshav in the evening to help his parents work at home as well. He was active in the Gadna and was trained as a lieutenant colonel in Gadna, and he was close to his fellow students in the “Li-Ad” settlement group that was about to join the Nahal Brigade. However, in this service he did not see enough challenge to his turbulent spirit and he wanted to serve in an elite unit. He had successfully passed the difficult tests for a course and was Simcha, but injury at an early age prevented him from this course. Reuven asked to volunteer for a paratroop unit. In the end he found his way to the Golani Brigade. In early November 1975 he began basic training in this unit. On his last vacation at home, ReuSon of came after the swearing-in ceremony at the top of Mount Tabor, where his unit swore allegiance to the army and the state. This ceremony impressed him to the depths of his soul, and he spoke of it with great enthusiasm. A few days later he received another leave, as a sign of recognition for his excellence in training and to allow him to greet his father, who was about to return from abroad On the 5th of Tevet 5765 (9.12.1975) Reuven fell during his service about five weeks after his entry into the IDF. He was brought to rest in the land of Moshav Hatzav, which was connected to her with all his soul, leaving behind his parents, brother and three sisters, and the parents published a booklet in memory of Reuven, in which the parents, teachers and friends painted the image of the boy, -time.
