Nahum (Halawa), Ovadia


Ovadia, son of Varda and Yitzhak, was born on 24.6.1955 in Jerusalem and studied at the Meiri elementary school in Jerusalem, where he immigrated to Israel with the waves of mass immigration. In every society and every class, he was the leader and the most influential of his friends, and he was always very friendly and cheerful, and always gathered around him friends who loved him and were happy to be with him. Indeed, he reached the position of the Jerusalem Youth Champion in boxing in 1972 and won the title of an outstanding athlete, in order to help support the family Quit his studies after primary school and started working. He was much loved by his colleagues and was always ready to help others. Impatiently waited for employees joining the army and Gaza was his desire to serve in combat soldier. drafted into the IDF in April 1973, he volunteered for the paratroopers. His commanders and friends said that he was very tolerant and used to encourage his friends during the exhausting training sessions, and gave his surroundings cheer, optimism and high morale. Ovadia was very attached to his family. On vacations and before holidays, he would visit every relative and friend, without missing anyone, and bless them for the holiday. Several times he composed essays on subjects that interested him and fascinated his imagination, such as: the essence of life, man and his desires and Zionism. Ovadia did not get to wear the wings and the red beret he dreamed so much about. At the end of basic training, his unit was stationed in Abu-Rhodes when the Yom Kippur War broke out. Ovadia and his friends, the young fighters, fought fiercely against the Egyptian commando units that landed near helicopters in Abu Rudeis. Ovadia was injured and killed during the bombing on October 10, 1973. He was laid to rest at the Mount Herzl cemetery in Jerusalem. Survived by his parents and four brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
