Son of Daoud and Narcissus. He was born on September 11, 1957, in Haifa, where he moved to Petah Tikva where he completed his elementary studies at the Yesodot school in Gedalyahu, where he completed his studies at the ORT vocational school in Jerusalem. And in his youth he was a member of a folk dance group, and his close friends called him Gideon, a name that he had once mistakenly adopted and became his second name.Gedaliah was drafted into the IDF at the end of July 1975 And was accepted to the Technical School of the Air Force in the electronics trend. From childhood he dreamed of being a pilot, and because he was not accepted for a pilot course due to a slight health impairment, he decided that he was in the Air Force, and also in ground positions. He completed the course of the school, as an electronics systems technician, with a high grade, and was assigned to control positions on electronic aircraft systems. In the assessment of his commanders, it was said: “A soldier who performs his duties in a good and thorough manner, with professional knowledge, is very devoted to his work, disciplined and shows a strong desire for progress. Gedaliah had long-term ambitions for his military service, where he saw his future and wanted to move up the ladder. After being raised to the rank of sergeant, Gedalia was accepted to a basic officers’ course and volunteered for the career army. Gedaliah passed the officers’ course with great success, became fond of his friends and commanders, and has already reached the final stages. On the 26th of Tammuz 5738 (26.7.1978) he fell in the line of duty. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Petah Tikva. He was 21 years old. Survived by his parents. Two brothers and five sisters. After his death, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In a letter of condolence sent to the bereaved family, the commander of the officers’ school wrote: “Gedalyahu was a model cadet and a loyal son of a soldier who saw his future in the IDF and the air force.” Service and progress in the IDF.
