Nahlun, Elazar
Elazar, son of Shulamit and Aharon, was born on the 17th of Tammuz, 5761 (17.7.1951) in Sde Eliyahu. He studied at the kibbutz religious school in Sde Eliyahu. Elazar, was a member of a family of veterans of the pioneering religious settlement in the Beit She’an Valley. In his youth, Elazar was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and was active in sports. He was a member of the light athletics team and participated in regional and national competitions. He was also a member of the basketball team of Sde Eliyahu and of the “Elitzur” sports organization. He was a youth counselor in youth camps and on trips. From a young age, he had a dual tendency – both technical and nature and landscape. He was very sensitive to flora and fauna, and his father told him that he could enjoy a long time watching the bird, the bee, or the flowers. There was a deep emotional affinity between him and his parents, brothers and sisters. He also loved his friends in the kibbutz and they loved him. He was a tall man, good-natured, modest and humble. As a member of a religious family in a religious sector, he was meticulous in his observance of the commandments, faithful to the Jewish religion and to his national and Jewish values and values. Elazar was drafted into the IDF at the beginning of December 1969. At first he served in the Nahal paramilitary brigade, completed a platoon commander’s course and served as a squad commander. A new period began in Elazar’s life – a period of life for a religious young man in the course, one of the longest and most difficult in the IDF, and later the life of a religious pilot in an operational squadron, But his parents heard that he had encountered problems because there were very few religious boys in this course, and Elazar managed to overcome all the difficulties due to his pleasant manner, his temperament, his technical skills and his strong faith. The course became a pilot in the air force, thus fulfilling the dream of Elazar’s life, which he had dreamed since he saw his own eyes from his home In Sde Eliyahu, during the War of Attrition, on the eastern side of the Jordan River, he was offered the opportunity to fly in a modern, sophisticated aircraft, and he agreed to volunteer for an additional period of service, following the considerations and dilemmas stemming from his great desire to return. And on the eve of the Yom Kippur of 1973, Elazar was at home and had time to build a sukkah with his father. On Yom Kippur he rushed to his squadron and went on operational flights in the Golan Heights and the Sinai front. On the 12th of Tishrei 5734 (October 12, 1973) Elazar was killed and killed by an anti-aircraft missile in his plane, he was brought to eternal rest at the Sde Eliyahu cemetery, leaving behind his parents, brother and three sisters.
