Nadler, Yosef

Son of Rachel and Benjamin, was born on July 13, 1925, in Jerusalem. He studied in the cheder. When his parents moved to Petach Tikvah, he studied at the Netzach Yisrael school and when he reached the age of 15 he stopped studying and began to earn a living in electrical and mechanical work. He was a member of the “Young Maccabee” organization, which was a member of the Histadrut. He was naturally silent and very energetic. In 1944 he enlisted in the British army and served in the navy, mainly in Egypt. In 1947 he was released and returned home. Yosef joined the Irgun underground and served in a combat unit, after which he was released and returned to participate in the activities of his organization.29 After the UN General Assembly resolution of 29 November 1947 on the partition of the country and the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was given responsible positions. He completed a commanders’ course and was appointed responsible for the company’s drivers. Participated in the conquest of Jaffa, Yehudia and Ramle. Joseph fell on the 11th of Iyar 5708 (May 20, 1948) in an accident that occurred at the base in Petah Tikva. Joseph was in the room to which a host of Jews had been brought – old grenades that seemed unsuitable. Due to carelessness, one of the grenades exploded and detonated the explosives in the room. Yosef was seriously wounded and died. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Petah Tikva.
