Nachum, Shlomo
Son of Shulamit (Salma) and David, was born on December 23, 1961, in Ashkelon, the eighth son of a well-to-do family. Shlomo studied at the Maimon religious public school in Ashkelon, and after completing his studies, he continued his studies at the Neve Herzog Yeshiva in Nir Galim, near Ashdod. After completing his studies at Neve Herzog, Shlomo worked for a short time as a clerk in the bank until his enlistment in the IDF. On 6 February 1980 he enlisted and began serving in the Armored Corps. Shlomo took a load-training course and excelled in this role. He was loved by his comrades in the unit because of his intelligence and joy of life. Shlomo was involved in what was going on around him, and his commanders knew his skills. In February 1982, he rose to the rank of sergeant. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, Shlomo fought with his unit in Lebanon. On the 7th of Sivan 5762 (7.6.1982), at the beginning of the fighting, his unit encountered a squad of terrorists near Tire. In the exchange, Shlomo was killed and killed. He was 21 years old when he died. Defense Minister Ariel Sharon wrote to his family: “He was an excellent soldier, loved by all.” The commander of his unit wrote: “Sergeant Shlomo was a veteran soldier in the company and in a very professional and professional battalion, and he was a pillar of social life in the company and was very fond of his comrades.” Shlomo was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ashkelon. He left behind his parents, four brothers and seven sisters.
