Myers, Moshe (Mano)


Moshe (Mano), son of Hilda and Rudolf Myers, was born in 1924 in the city of Almlo, the Netherlands. During the Nazi occupation he managed to hide from the executioners and save his life. He was a Zionist from his youth, an active member of the He’Chalutz movement and immigrated to Israel as an illegal immigrant in 1946. Upon his arrival he joined Kibbutz Gilad of Hashomer Hatzair near Dalia. He moved to Kibbutz Ramat Hasharon and worked as an agricultural laborer. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he enlisted in the Alexandroni Brigade. The road to Jerusalem was was cut off by the legion of Latrun. A breakthrough was planned, Operation son of-Nun A, and the task was assigned to the 7th Brigade. Moshe’s battalion would reinforce it for this mission. The battalion was ordered to conquer Latrun, but it encountered stronger enemy forces and had to retreat. In this battle he fell, on the 16th of Iyar (May 25, 1948). On 17.11.1949, he was transferred to the military cemetery in Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
