Mualem, Shlomo
Son of Yosef and Miriam. He was born on Baghdad, Iraq, on September 8, 1935. The elementary and high school he visited there were both Jewish schools, and he heard about his homeland in Baghlet-Baghdadi and was drawn to it with intense longing until finally he found his way to it In the framework of “Aliyat-Ha’ar”, he began to prepare for the English matriculation exams, but he did not make it until the time came for him to immigrate to Eretz Israel. He was absorbed in the school and devoted himself steadily to both studies and work, and in the last year he was in son of-Shemen, After completing his studies in son of-Shemen, he planned a program that would devote himself to agricultural research and would teach at the Faculty of Agriculture in Rehovot, where he served in the IDF since August 1955. On the days of his work in son of-Shemen He served in several battles, such as Qalqiliya and Khan Yunis, and finally in the Sinai Campaign. He fell in the line of duty on 3 Adar 577 (5 March 1957), a few hours before the IDF left the Gaza Strip. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
