Moyal, Simon

Son of Rina and David. Simon was born in Morocco on July 14, 1938, and grew up in Sefi. As a boy, Simon immigrated to Israel alone as part of Youth Aliyah. After a short period in Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha he moved to Kibbutz Be’eri. He was considered to be a very quiet boy who stood out for his kindness and willingness to help others. Simone enlisted in the IDF and volunteered for the paratroopers, and after completing his service in the IDF, Simon gave up on his occupation as a printing company, a profession he acquired in Morocco, and volunteered for the police. Simon devoted himself entirely to work. He would bring home files and work on them until the wee hours of the night. Simon met Fernande when she was in the studio in the kibbutz. After a while the two married. Over the years, the couple had three sons: David, Eli and Avi. Simon’s favorite pastime was at home with his three sons. In 1958 the couple moved to Ashdod. Simon was a favorite of all because he was patient, and many would come to his house around the clock to ask for help and advice. During the Six-Day War Simon served in Jerusalem and was one of the first to reach the Western Wall. After the war he served as commander of the Ramallah police station. Simon went to a symbol course and finished three steps. He then received his last position – a researcher in the Nes Ziona district. Simon was considered an excellent interrogator and most of the complicated interrogations were imposed upon him. He was credited with many successes, and his commanders recommended him to study criminology at the university. After ten years of service in the police force, on the 10th of Kislev 5710 (10.1.1970), Sergeant Shani Simone fell on duty while he was buried at the military cemetery in Ashdod.
