Mosler, Mordechai

Son of Yoel and Ida, was born on the 15th of May 1937 in Antwerp, Belgium. His father perished in the Holocaust, and the child Mordecai was saved thanks to the dedication of a Christian family, who hid in their home in southern France during the war years. In 1945 the family – the mother, Mordechai and his two sisters – immigrated to Israel. Mordechai studied at the Moriah elementary school in Tel Aviv and continued his studies at other institutions of Youth Aliyah. He studied at the Kfar Batya boarding school in Ra’anana and continued his studies in agriculture at Midreshet Ruppin. Mordechai was a serious guy, honest and conscientious. A loyal son to his mother, and a caring and devoted father to his two young sons. Even when he was a boy, he was responsible and devoted to his family and supported his mother and stepfather when the family’s financial situation was bad. Throughout the years he maintained a friendly relationship with the family of his rescuers from France. Still, he was a cheerful, sociable guy and acceptable to everyone. All his friends, in the unit he served and at work, called him by the nickname “Motke” out of respect for his calm temperament and his goodness. In the years following his immigration to Israel, he completed his studies in agriculture, but after completing his army service, he became involved in the technical field of the welding department in the air industry. He completed various professional courses and soon became the director of a department. Mordechai was drafted into the IDF in early May 1955 and was assigned to the Armored Corps, and after completing basic training courses, including a course for scouts, a sabotage course and a track for half-tracks, he was stationed in the Hermesh battalion as a sapper driver. For 19 years he was called for long periods of reserve service and took part in the Sinai Campaign, the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War. On Sunday, 28 Av 5776 (28.7.1976), he fell in his service in the Sinai region and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Rishon Letzion, where he left behind a wife, two sons, a mother, a brother and two sisters. : “Mordechai Mosler was a good soldier, quiet and disciplined. He always had a good temperament, took part in the unit’s activities and contributed greatly to the good feeling that prevailed in the unit. “
