Moshkovitch, Moshe

Moshe, son of Perl and Asher Moshkovitch, was born in 1908 in Bucharest, Romania, where he completed high school. When he was 17, he left his parents’ home and immigrated to Israel. Having lived in Israel in harsh conditions and in poverty, he finally agreed to his parents’ pleas and returned to Romania, but found no rest there. In 1934 returned to Israel by illegal immigration. At first he worked in the building profession, until he was injured at work and returned to his previous profession of watchmaking. During those years he brought his old mother to Israel and supported her. During the bloody riots of 1936-1939, he participated in the Hagana Guard and in 1947, he joined the “People’s Guard”. He was active in guarding and protecting the Tel Amal neighborhood near Haifa. On 2 Adar II (12.2.1948), Moshe was about to leave for guarding the neighborhood, but the movement of vehicles there stopped because of the shooting in Wadi Rushmiya. Nevertheless, he decided to go to the guard house and did not heed warnings. When he reached his destination, a burst of bullets pierced his body. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife, Tzilla, and three daughters.
