Moshe, Zechariah – Yahya
Born in 1910 in the city of Jahazan, Yemen, he studied in the “cheder.” When Mashger married Shoshana and the couple moved to the city of Aden, in 1935 the couple immigrated to Eretz Israel and settled in Jerusalem, Their firstborn daughters were born. As the lack of work in Jerusalem worsened, the family moved to the streets, where he found difficulty in his work in the orchards of the settlement. After working for a period of time in the British army camps, Zechariah Nol acquired and began to weave tapestries and sold them to his family of seven sons and daughters. During the turbulent period of the War of Independence, Zechariah was recruited for fortifications and invested many hours of work a day. One day, as usual, he went to the site of the fortifications together with his friend Yosef Habashi. The two lost their way and reached the area of Nitzanim, where the Egyptian army was still present, and since then they have disappeared. His wife’s search was futile. Later on, his family learned through the International Red Cross that on January 1, 1949, Zachariah Yahya was executed by hanging with his friend on charges of spying for Israel, and his burial place is unknown to this day.
