Moshe, Raphael (Shaul)


Son of Mazal-Tov (Matilda) and Yehuda, was born on January 1, 1929 in Greece. In 1933 Rafael immigrated with his family to Eretz Israel. The family settled in Tel Aviv, where Raphael also studied. In 1945, he joined the ranks of Lehi and was nicknamed “Jew-Saul.” After the UN General Assembly resolution on November 29, his main activity was to purchase arms for Lehi. On February 23, 1948, during an operation to confiscate weapons from British soldiers in a cafe opposite the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot, Raphael was shot and killed. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
