Moshe Brechar
Son of Pesia and Chaim, Moshe was born on the 13th of Adar I, 5627 (13.2.1927) in the city of Stomara, Romania. From his childhood he was active in a Zionist youth movement. At the age of 14 he left his parents ‘home and moved to Budapest to study goldsmiths’ work. There, too, he continued his Zionist activities and organized his comrades in the Zionist youth movement. During the Second World War he went underground and helped many Jews in Budapest escape the claws of the Germans. After the war he was active in the “Irgun Ha – Bricha” in various countries. The Romanians arrested him for several weeks, and after many shakes, in 1947, he made aliyah through Italy on the ship Shabtai Lozinski and was one of the first to immigrate to Israel. When the ship was caught by the British, he jumped off the ship, managed to slip away in time and reach the shore safely. In Israel he joined Kibbutz Mivtachim in the Negev. From the first moment he became fond of his friends, began to realize his ambitions with great vigor, and enthusiastically participated in his kibbutz work and security matters. On the 26th of Tevet 5708 (26.12.1947) Moshe went out with his friends to guard the water line and they were attacked on three sides by Arab gangs. For a long time the few stood up against the rioters. Moshe was mortally wounded, continued to fight and on the way to Nir with a dead man. He was buried in Nir Am. His family, sister and brother arrived in Israel after they fell. On the 21st of Kislev, 5710 (November 30, 1950), he was put to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa.
