Mordechai, Yosef (Yozhi)


Son of Anna and Moshe. He was born on January 28, 1918, in Vidin, Bulgaria. In his hometown he studied at the Hebrew elementary school and later graduated with honors from high school. Later the family moved to Sofia, where Yosef studied law for two years. In December 1938 he immigrated to Palestine in a group of activists from the “Betar” movement, Organized in Bulgaria. In 1940 he joined the Irgun Zvai Leumi (National Military Organization) (Lehi). He was arrested with his wife, also a member of the underground, several times and while in prison he contracted typhus. In the hospital of the central prison in Jerusalem, to which he was transferred, he did not receive proper treatment and there he died on 12 Sivan, June 15, 1943. He was buried in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives. He left a wife, parents and sister.
