Mordechai, Yosef (Yossi)


Son of Aliza and Menashe. He was born on 20 June 1968 in Ramle. Yossi was the youngest son in his family and was born after two daughters. When he was one and a half years old, the family moved to Holon, where he grew up and was educated. Yossi studied at the Katznelson Elementary School in Holon and was a diligent student who made great achievements in his studies and completed his high school studies at the Holtz vocational school in Tel Aviv. Yossi was fond of sports in general and basketball in particular, and played basketball in the Hapoel youth and youth teams. Holon and was one of the most prominent players in them , Because Yossi was tall and his physical fitness was evident when he was eleven years old when he was walking from Holon to Ramle to visit his relatives there, and Yossi liked to listen to music and especially to pop music. 1986. After basic training, he was sent to a course at the IAF Technical School. Toward the end of the course, Yossi asked to go through a unit so that he could serve close to his home. His request was accepted, but he did not get it. On the night of June 20, 1987, Yossi’s nineteenth birthday, while on vacation, Yossi was critically injured in a road accident. He drove a civilian car with his friends to the base where he served, after visiting a soldier friend in his camp. Suddenly, in a sharp curve, the driver lost control of the vehicle, got off the road, got on the road, went down again and turned over. Yossi arrived unconscious at the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer. For six days he fought for his life, and on the 29th of Sivan 5767 (26.6.1987) died of his wounds. Yossi was nineteen and six days old when he died. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Holon. Survived by his parents and two sisters – Gila and Talia. A Torah library in his memory was donated to the Geula Synagogue in Ramle
