Mordechai, Hanan


Son of Nissim and Roza. He was born in Basra, Iraq, in 1946 and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. He studied at Neta’im Elementary School and completed his studies in the Clerical Department of the Be’er Sheva Comprehensive High School. Hanan was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and took an active part in all its activities. He was an enthusiastic athlete. He played basketball, soccer, boxing, and developed a formidable body. He was also active in the Gadna air force, but despite this, he was accepted, before his induction into the IDF, to the naval boarding school in Haifa. Hanan joined the IDF in early April 1964 and was assigned to the Navy, where he successfully completed a naval reconnaissance course and served 19 months on “Yaffo” before serving in the IDF. His behavior was very good and he fulfilled his duty to the full satisfaction of his commanders. Hanan was recognized as an IDF disabled person and began to work, first at the Bank, then at the National Insurance Institute, and finally at the Makhteshim factory in Beer Sheva, and on July 30, 1973, two months after his marriage worsened his health and his doctors forbade him to work. , Corporal Hanan died as a result of the injury sustained during his service and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva, where he placed a pregnant wife two months after his death. His widow gave birth to a daughter named after her father Chen.
