Mordechai Ben-Shimol


Mordechai, son of Farah and Yehuda, was born on April 19, 1955, in Ramle. He studied at the Uziel Elementary School and later at the Shakediel High School in Ramle. He was a good and diligent student and, according to his teacher, was disciplined and sympathetic to his teachers and classmates. Mordecai was a joyous boy full of joy and love of man, Simcha in his part and loving to help others. Along with high school he worked as a carpenter. When he heard that his friend needed money, he donated his annual leave and refused to receive compensation for these days. Mordechai was a sports fan and often watched the soccer games of his team – “Betar” Ramla – was devoted to his parents and cared for his family, and his friends told him that he never refused to respond to a request for help. To the IDF at the beginning of May 1973 and was assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing basic training and after completing his training course, he was assigned to one of the artillery units. He was an excellent gunman, responsible and dedicated to his job. Thanks to his easy nature and great energy, he became fond of his commanders and acquired many friends among the unit’s soldiers. They testify that he has often been an example of his diligence, and that he has never complained about difficulties in training and military life. During his army service he tried not to worry about his parents, often visited the house and made sure to communicate with his family. On April 4, 1974, Mordecai was killed in a shelling in a material area on the Golan Heights and brought to eternal rest in the Ramle cemetery. Survived by his parents, five brothers and three sisters.
