Son of Esther and Boris was born on February 7, 1963, in Russia. Matityahu was the third child of a family of five. He began his elementary studies in his native country, where he studied for two years, until he immigrated with his parents to Israel in 1972. The family settled in Ashdod. Matityahu continued his elementary studies, first in Ashdod, and later in Jaffa, where his family moved. At a young age he went to work, and acquired the profession of frames. Matityahu joined the IDF in April 1983. He underwent basic training and was sent to a truck driver’s course, and Matityahu completed the course successfully and was assigned to serve as a driver in an administrative unit.
