Monk, Reuven (“Ruby”)

Monk, Reuven (“Ruby”)

Julius and Greta. He was born on March 25, 1938 in the city of Brna, Czechoslovakia. When he was two years old he was brought to Israel. After completing his studies at the Geula Elementary School in Haifa, where he was friendly to all his friends because of his simplicity and humility, he decided to go to agriculture and then spent three whole years at the agricultural school in Nahalal, where he specialized in animal industries. At school he began to look for the way to the kibbutz, the form of settlement he chose. Belonged to the “Nachshol” nucleus, and although he was not a man of things, because by nature he was quiet and withdrawn, he was nevertheless aware of what was going on among the members. He was a lover of others and always had an attentive ear to the words of his friends – and for that he was loved by all. During the days of the Sinai Campaign, he was drafted into a night watchman, but he did not refrain from his work during the days, and everything was received with good spirit and without resentment. He was a member of an extremist position and once told his friends: “If I do not return home, I was a good guy …” From the beginning of his service in the IDF in November 1956 he was discovered as a courageous, orderly and disciplined soldier. He fell in the line of duty on the 8th of Adar 5727 (March 8, 1957) and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa.
