Mochnik, Daniel (Danny)
Was born on July 5, 1932, in Moshav Beit Gan, near Yavne’el. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, following the decision of the UN General Assembly on 29 November 1947 to divide the country into two states, he was only sixteen years old, but his heart was drawn to the aid of his brothers who were defending the Jewish settlements. He volunteered for the ranks of the fighters, served in the Golani Brigade and participated in battles for the Jordan Valley and took part in repelling Arab attacks on Beit Keshet and Sejera. From these battles he returned safe and sound. On June 9, 1948, Golani forces attacked the village from the direction of Sajara, and another force, in armored vehicles, was moving along the road from Tiberias. The attacking force encountered fierce resistance from the enemy, who even sent reinforcements to the area. The battle was fought until nightfall and finally the forces had to retreat. In this battle he fell on the 2nd of Sivan 5708 (9.6.1948) and was brought to rest in the cemetery in Beit Gan.
