Mizrahi, Yosef (Ze’ev)

Yosef, son of Aliza and Daniel Mizrachi, was born on September 31, 1931 in Jerusalem. As soon as he graduated from the Talmud Torah he went to work and took care of a family that was in a difficult financial situation. He studied mechanics and worked in it. When he was 16, he joined the Irgun underground and was active in Jerusalem, was known to the British authorities, and was known by the underground as a favorite of all his friends. Two days before the bombing of the King David Hotel he was ordered to go to Tel Aviv, where he was imprisoned for about nine months. After his release, he returned to Jerusalem and continued his underground activities. When the War of Independence broke out, Yosef took part in the battles against the Arab village of Shuafat. On May 19, 1948, when he stood guard on the roof of the Nissan Beck Synagogue during the attack of the enemy, he was hit by a grenade and fell. He was buried in the Old City of Jerusalem. His name was engraved on the monument erected in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in memory of those who perished in the Jewish Quarter and the memory of soldiers who fell in the battle for Jerusalem and were buried on the Mount of Olives.
