Mizrahi, Nissim

Nissim, son of Rachel and Moshe Mizrachi, was born on May 19, 1922 in Jerusalem and grew up in poverty and destitution in a dark, damp cellar. Despite the efforts of his parents, to allow him to study, at the age of 11 he began to work to help his parents. As he matured, he worked on himself and won the admiration of all those who knew him. Nissim worked as a driver and supported his parents. During World War II he wanted to enlist in the British army, but as the main breadwinner of the house he had to give up that dream, and instead worked in military camps in Israel. With the outbreak of the War of Independence Nissim enlisted, and because of his expertise in mechanics he was transferred to the Negev in this position. Nissim fell in the Mekorot camp on his birthday on the 10th of Iyar, May 19, 1948 and was buried in a mass grave in Nir Am. On the 24th of Kislev 5711 (December 3, 1950), his remains were transferred to the military cemetery at Mount Herzl In Jerusalem.
