Mizrahi, Menashe-Zakai

Son of Frecha and Yosef, was born on March 15, 1926 in Tiberias and attended the “Kol Israel Haverim” elementary school. He did well in his elementary studies, but did not finish them because he had to start working as a boy. Menashe-Zakai worked as an apprentice to a carpenter, specialized in craftsmanship and eventually became the main breadwinner of the family, which was attended by many sons. He was a clean and neat guy who did not stand out, and in the “disinterested” way he was also in the ranks of the Haganah, to which he belonged since 1945. At the beginning of the War of Independence he felt among the first to defend his city. Various tasks were assigned to him. From time to time he crawled out of the Old City with grenades in his hand, facing enemy lines to hit him. His last assignment was at the Anglo-Palestine Bank, and he and his friends managed to paralyze a number of enemy positions in the area, until the Arabs called for British reinforcements to “take over” the position and in this action also fell on the 28th of Adar 5708 (1948). He was laid to rest in the cemetery in the village of Hittim.
