Mizrahi, Meir

Son of-Miriam and Ben Zion, was born in 1932 in Tel Aviv. When the War of Independence broke out in the winter of 1948, he was only 16, but he “increased” his age by two years and was accepted by the Palmach. Meir served in Dorot, Nir Am and insurers. He fulfilled his role as an adult. On the 18th of Iyar, May 27, 1948 Meir was among the fighters of the three platoons of the 8th Battalion of the Negev Brigade, who went to the south of the country to sabotage the transport of the Egyptian enemy on the Khan Yunis-Rafah road. The platoon entered a large Egyptian ambush. The commander gave a withdrawal order and most of the force arrived at the meeting place, but three soldiers, Meir among them turned north, and reached the Arab village of Beit Jera. According to informants of the Palmach, the three soldiers were shot to death by the Arabs of the village and buried on the banks of the wadi, and a retaliatory operation that took place, did not help their comrades find burial places. At the Military Cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem the space is a “maclan” – a space whose burial place is unknown.
