Mizrahi, Eliahu

One of the twelve children of Miriam and Benjamin, was born in 1932 in the Old City of Jerusalem. Studied in Talmud Torah “Mizrahi” excelled in diligence and ability to grasp, especially in the practical professions and bragging to good manners. After graduation, he helped his father work. His passion for life, as he expressed among his friends, was to devote himself to the destruction of the land and the resurgence of its desolation, and in the meantime he secretly practiced combat operations.In the winter of 1948, At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he served as a liaison in the isolated Old City and once organized his comrades to remove weapons from a British guard post. On the way back with the loot, a shell of an Arab hit him and he was was wounded, treated at Misgav Ladach Hospital and returned to service. At the time of the fall of the Old City, his father was taken prisoner and he, as a “young boy,” was allowed to go with the rest of the family to the new city and continued his activities in the center of the Gadna youth center in the Katamon neighborhood. His mother warned him against the danger and tried to detain him, but in the end he was convinced that as a responsible group leader his dodging might have had an adverse effect on his comrades. He was buried in Sheik-Bader Bet. On the 17th of Sivan 5761 (21.6.1951) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
