Mizrahi, Eliahu (Eli)
Son of Simcha and Shlomo, was born on December 23, 1927 in Jerusalem. Where he received his elementary education and then began working as a pastry chef. He devoted himself to this profession, and progressed well in his work while continuing to study at evening classes. As a member of Hanoar Haoved, he entered the ranks of the Haganah at an early age, and after the UN General Assembly decided to partition the country he began serving in the defense forces and took part in many activities to protect Jerusalem and its environs. He was a member of the convoy, and was a candidate for the course of the General Staff, in which he was killed in the Battle of Castel, which controls the road and was held by our forces, was captured. The Arabs carried out a number of counter-attacks in order to return this vital control to their hands and on one night, on the night of April 7-8. Their commander Abd al-Qader al-Husseini was killed. The next day, the Arab forces launched an intense attack to capture the body and find the body of their leader. Eliahu was part of the company that held the place and under pressure the enemy was forced to retreat. In this battle he fell on the 28th of Adar 5708 (1948) and was buried in a mass grave in Ma’ale Hachamisha. On the 19th of Kislev 5714 (19.11.1953) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
