Mizrachi, Yaakov (Yaki)


Ben Aviva and Shlomo. He was born on 23.1.1976 in Ramat Gan. Jacob was the youngest and had two sisters – Sima and Sharon. From his childhood Yaki was known by all. He began his studies at the “Hagefen” school in Ramat Gan and continued at the Komemiyot School in Pardes Katz. He completed eighth grade at the Ben Gurion School in Givatayim and continued at Ort Tel Hashomer High School where he studied mechanics and procurement Profession: Machining. Yaki worked in sports and played football, basketball and snooker. He was very attached to his mother and wanted to stay close to help her. In the middle of August 1995, Yaki was drafted into the IDF, and he was sent to the course of the equipment maintenance unit and was assigned to the Ordnance Corps. On September 13, 1996, Yaki was critically wounded in a car accident at the Ashdod junction, while traveling with his friend to deliver a Shana Tova greeting. A bus, which was not obeyed by a right-of-way sign, hit the vehicle they were traveling in He was rushed to the hospital in Tel Hashomer where he was hospitalized and treated for eight days, unconscious, and his resuscitation efforts failed and on September 21, 1996, he died of his wounds. He was twenty years old when he died. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. Survived by his parents and two sisters. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, Chief of Staff Amnon Lipkin-Shahak wrote: “Ya’akov served as a maintenance coordinator for workshop equipment at the Ashdod fuel center, and was described by his commanders as a responsible and dedicated soldier who carried out his duties to their full satisfaction. Was admired and accepted by his commanders and friends alike. “The commander of the unit where he served wrote to his family:” For many years she worked a family, raising and nurturing a son, and when the son reaches the age of eighteen she sends him to join his duty to his country. Yaakov, blessed memory, who served for a short time in our unit, performed his duties faithfully and devotedly, despite the many difficulties he encountered.
