Miran, Gershon (Gary)


Gershon, son of Leah and Salah, was born on February 28, 1951, in the Pardesiya transit camp. was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early 1969 and served in the Artillery Corps because of his family’s difficult economic situation, his short service in the IDF, and he was released and began working to help his parents. He worked as a customs officer in Judea and Samaria. A month before the outbreak of the war, he married his girlfriend Ronit. In the Yom Kippur War, Gershon was in a mobile artillery battery that fought in the Sinai. With the artillery in his battery, Gershon went through a tough battle in the battles against the Egyptians, crossing the Suez Canal, and conquering the West Bank. He was the first artillery unit to succeed the Canal, while his mobile cannon crew in Battery C was outstanding throughout the fighting. On October 19, 1973, Gershon was hit and killed by anti-Egyptian fire while his battery was parked near the Soor Soir Airport on the West Bank of the Suez Canal. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Netanya. Survived by a wife, parents, brothers and sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal.
