Mintzberg, Yoram

Yoram, son of Kahana and Naftali, was born on 25 July 1951 in Jerusalem. He studied at the Luria and Beit-Hild primary schools and at the Jerusalem High School. He was a friend, and later a counselor in the Scouts movement. He was very interested in sports, and at school was a member of the student council and was responsible for the entertainment programs. In his free time, he liked to listen to music. Yoram aspired to independence since he was little, and although the economic situation in the house was good, he often worked to earn himself. At night he worked in the bakery, in the mornings he distributed rolls, sold flowers, transferred medicine from the wholesaler to the pharmacy, and served as assistant to the director of the film company. With the money he earned, he bought himself a bicycle, and then he bought a scooter. He was full of energy and even when he was very tired, he did not give up social gatherings. In fact, he was the initiator of all the group entertainment, the many walks and swimming together in the sea was a sport he loved most. Yoram was full of healthy curiosity. Sometimes, on a hike, he would have to stop the car to go down and look at the view. Then he would shout to the occupants of the car, “Get out and see some lovely view, how can you look out the window with such peace of mind?” He would infect everything with his enthusiasm. On the roads, he would come down to read what was written on top of monuments. Patiently and thoroughly he examined each word and recorded it in his memory. “When it was decided to buy a new piece of furniture for the house,” his parents said, “it was Yoram who determined what was purchased and at what price. Yoram did not like expressions of affection. He was ashamed of them. Once, when his girlfriend asked him, “What kind of slang are you talking to your mother?” He replied: “She knows I love her.” His Yoram and his inner smile were different from each other, he was a little ashamed of his good and sensitive inner self, and he tried to hide it, and he always caught up with us with his usual enthusiasm, his followers in the Scouts also had a similar effect, and they loved him very much. ”
Yoram was drafted into the IDF in mid-November 1969 and assigned to the Engineering Corps, where he completed a series of courses, After serving in the army, he was sent to an officer’s course and later took a course in engineering officers. After receiving the rank of officer, he was placed in a rear unit, but he insisted and even managed to move to a combat unit. As a commander, he was very much admired by his subordinates. In mid-November 1972, when he was discharged from compulsory service, he began studying industrial and manufacturing engineering at the Technion in Haifa. He managed to study for only one semester until the war broke out. During the Yom Kippur War he served as commander of a field division in the Golan Heights. On October 10, 1973, he was wounded and fell in battle when he attacked the Syrian force in the head of his platoon. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Mount Herzl. He was survived by a father, a mother and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
