Minkowitz, Yaakov (“Yankele”)


Son of Izik and Sarah. He was born on the 5th of Shevat 5702 (5702-1941) in Moshav Beit Oved, where his parents were friends, completed his studies in Beit Hanan and then studied at the Mikve Israel Agricultural School and completed his studies. And in the last year of his life he married a wife, and his name came to fame in the region as one of the most important of the planters and planters, and many of them came to his door when they wanted to plant. He was not reckless in his actions in order to prevent danger without any purpose, and painting was his hobby in which he dealt with his free time Despite his parents ‘and teachers’ many entreaties, Jacob refused to turn painting into his main occupation, claiming that painting was nothing more than a hobby for him, but he did not want it because he disliked it with publicity and hated to be praised. In February 1959, he completed his regular service and later served in the reserves. Before the Six-Day War, he was again called to the flag and fought as a rifleman out of loyalty to his position and his comrades. On the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), he fell in a battle near Kotsayma during an aerial bombardment. He left a wife and daughter born two weeks after they fell. He was laid to rest at the military emergency cemetery in Bari and was later transferred to the eternal rest of the cemetery in Rishon Letzion.
