Son of Leah and Saadia. He was born on January 6, 1964, in Gan Yavne, the seventh son of a family of eight, and attended the Sinai religious elementary school in Gan Yavneh and the vocational high school in the Merom Zion youth center in Jerusalem. In August 1985, Erez was drafted into the IDF. He was stationed in the Artillery Corps and went on basic training. Erez continued his military training in a basic course for the Artillery Corps and the Gunner-Lance course. At the end of his basic training, he received the rank of Corporal and was sent to serve in the Artillery Battalion 334.
